Robert Hoozee Deceased

It is with great sorrow that the Direction Committee, the Board of Directors and the general assembly of the Flemish Art Collection inform you of the death of Robert Hoozee (1949), the museum director of the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent, and member of the direction committee and Board of Directors of the Flemish Art Collection. Per way of notification, the Flemish Art Collection shares the message from the colleagues of the Museum of Fine Arts:

Since 1978 Robert Hoozee has been associated with the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent, first as an assistant, then from 1982 as Director ad interim, and then starting in 1985 as Director. He always strove for quality and perfection. That was true for all levels of museum activities, but his greatest attention went towards the presentation and disclosure of the historical collection and the organisation of the innovating and scientifically responsible exhibitions. Today, the museum must say farewell to a man who for decades, step by step, and with full discretion, built up the museum and bolstered the museum activities. Under his guidance, the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent developed into a national and international reference museum in the area of Belgian Art from the 19th and early 20th Centuries.

The memorial service will take place on Saturday, 25/02 at 10:30 am in the Sint-Annakerk in Ghent. The museum will be closed that day.

There will be a mourning registry available in the entrance hall of the museum.

The personnel, the Direction Committee, the members of the Board of Directors and the general assembly of the Flemish Art Collection express their sincere sympathies for the colleagues of the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent and for Robert's family.
