Traveling Art Ensor

It often occurs that works of art, or entire museum collections, which are in a good state of condition, travel elsewhere to enhance a temporary exhibition. As a consequence of the temporary closing of the Royal Museum for Fine Arts in Antwerp, due to the far-reaching renovation plans, a portion of the collections are spread out over the country. Iconic works of exemplary partial collections cannot sit idle in the repository for years on end. A number of Ensors will themselves be making a grand world tour. In addition, the Ensors from the Mu.ZEE (The Art Museum by the Sea) are to be recognised. An overview:

The canvases of After the Storm and Un bon coin chez moi were present until 30 October in the exhibition Double Portrait: Flemish Symbolists in the KUMU Museum of Art in Tallinn (Estonia). The work, The Adultery is still at the Edvard Munch: Mysteries behind the Canvas expo in the Kunsthalle Bremen until 26 February.

Furthermore, there are yet still loans planned for the future. The etching Christ Calms the Storm will be present starting from 24 February in the exhibition of Van Gogh to Kandinsky, Symbolist Landscape 1880-1910 in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The same expo opens on 7 July in the National Gallery of Scotland and on 16 November in the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki.

Beginning 3 March, the painting, Portrait of Willy Finch, is to be seen at the Museum Jorn in Silkeborg (Denmark) in the setting of the James Ensor/Asger Jorn exhibition.
