Exhibition 'Intrigue: James Ensor by Luc Tuymans'

Curator Luc Tuymans brings Ensor to London for an exhibition in the Royal Academy of Arts. In Intrigue: James Ensor by Luc Tuymans, the contemporary Antwerp artist makes a selection from the subversive, theatrical, satirical and socially critical work of James Ensor (1860 - 1949). The title of the exhibition alludes to The Intrigue, one of Ensor's masterpieces from the collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp (KMSKA), and Tuymans' favourite piece. It is not an overview exhibition, but is rather an introduction based upon a selection of paintings, drawings and etchings. The KMSKA has the largest Ensor collection in the world and has worked closely with the Royal Academy of Arts for this exhibition.
